The Plur Project - Get Drunkmau5 to EDC NY

If you haven’t noticed, Lex and I are completely, passionately, deeply obsessed with spreading PLUR (Peace Love Unity and Respect). Our love of PLUR has stemmed from our past, and our past is something that isn’t always easy to relive. But through all our journeys hand-in-hand – through the ups and downs – we came up with something that we are genuinely amped to introduce; a way of life that has helped  us through the darkest of moments, and has made the brightest ones that much better.

First let’s take a walk down memory lane… a flashback to Lex and Andi circa middle school.  I, Andi, was deemed the school’s ultimate loser and I’m pretty sure Lex was runner up… if not, the ranking was interchanging daily. Me – scoliosis, braces with rubber bands crossing in front of my mouth granting me the nickname “Rubber Bandy Andi”, in marching band, color guard, the orchestra, choir and mural club… and then of course my deep affinity for collecting rocks and minerals… made me the coolest kid in town. WHATEVER!!

Then there was Lex – social anxiety, scared of her own shadow, confidence out the window and enjoying the role of the “sidekick” friend – you know, “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” – that metaphor fit Lex perfectly. She was in the accelerated learning “loser” classes with me because remember, when you’re in middle school, being smart means you’re going nowhere … right?  OH and of course she had her deep infatuation with Ben Affleck that took over every ounce of her free time… which didn’t really help matters much.

But I’ll tell you one thing. Although we pretty much only had one friend (each other) we spent our days having the time of our lives. Yep, we got made fun of on the regular, no one wanted to go on dates with us, and we never got invited to any party, ever… but somehow we found a way to make our own party – the party that was unnamed at the time – the party now known as “Bad Kids.” And that's what I remind myself of today – that we never changed who we were during all the ridicule, all the jokes, all the abuse. We always stayed true to who we were, who we were becoming, and who we would soon be.

Being teased for our differences was never a good feeling, but I almost look back and appreciate it now, because it set the wheels in motion for the life Lex and I have created through Bad Kids. We ventured out into the world with open minds and open hearts at a very young age, picking up new friends every step of the way - just as we always hoped someone would do for us. By the time we were considered fully functional adults, we had friends in all the right places, simply because we developed a unique way of getting through the roughest of times. And that my friends, is something we’ve decided to call The PLUR Project.

The PLUR Project: The act of spreading peace, love, unity and respect to all corners of the world. Spreading PLUR where it might be forgotten, or it might be needed, or it might just be the thing that changes someone’s life for the better.

Now, after years of build up, we want to launch the PLUR Project with someone who has been promoting this lifestyle through all of her actions and experiences time and time again… someone who embraces everyone for who they are, and encourages people to live out their dreams. We are referring to the twitter celebrity, the EDM-Queen herself, Drunkmau5. If you don’t know her full story… this one is for the books:

Drunkmau5, also known as Lisa, is a small town girl living in Oklahoma. Her dream has been to be a part of the EDM community since before she can remember, and this girl is one dedicated mother f-er. Although EDM does not spread its wide and loving arms out to her as much as it does to those LA, Philadelphia or NYC ravers, she has taken it upon herself to support, love and represent the EDM community through her twitter identity. Countless hours by the computer learning and understanding EDM, Drunkmau5 has, in one way or another, touched all of us. She is known primarily for doing favors for EVERYONE, helping people that she doesn't even know just out of the kindness in her heart, to support the greater good. She is the epitome of the ultimate PLUR spreader and someone who helps people such as middle school Lex and Andi remember the importance of being true to oneself.

When Lex and I gave her a call to talk about Bad Kids, we were very surprised as to where the conversation went. We learned that she has never been to New York – the mecca of all that is EDM – but not only that… she has never been to a freaking FESTIVAL. That's right people. This die-hard girl, this chick who lives and breathes EDM, has never in her young life experienced the most beautiful thing this world has to offer… a festival. The girl who has inspired so many to take risks and live in the moment, has never herself had the opportunity to experience this generational movement that she is helping change for the better… we are talking about electronic dance music's beloved festival season, baby!

The PLUR Project is so much more then just getting Lisa to a festival though. It’s about spreading peace, love, unity and respect to all corners of the world - where it might be forgotten or might be needed – through experiences and examples that resonate with our generation, nationwide. So kids, help us get Lisa to her first festival ever – the epic EDC NY – by donating on our Indiegogo platform any amount that you feel compelled to give to make sure Drunkmau5 has the experience she deserves, has been wanting for and has helped shape.

We want all of you to be a part of this unforgettable journey, so we have set up something pretty epic for you PLUR-cravers. Upon donation, we are extending an invite to the official “Welcome Drunkmau5 to NYC ” pregame, which will be held at Libation Nightclub on Saturday, May 18th, prior to the festival. We are taking the Bad Kids party bus to Citi Field so we don’t have to stop the dance party for one minute. Admission to our wild and crazy pregame (which we are sure will go down in history as the best BKC / Libation party yet) will be complimentary with your donation to the PLUR Project and our EDM-Queen.

We know this is only touching one person today, but this example of extreme PLUR can be carried from Bad Kids to Lisa – to her following and beyond – in order to continue the cycle of accepting and embracing others for just who they are. This cycle can help guide the young, inspire the old and ultimately fill this world consistently with a positive outlook on life. This cycle helps those Ben Affleck obsessed, rock and mineral collecting kids (like Lex and I) remember that now and forever you always have a place in the EDM community if you just embrace the art of being bad.

Hope to see you on the festival grounds or dancing like crazy monkeys at Libation.

We are Bad Kids.

It must be nice to be in a postion to have such sanctimonious attitudes. Why hate over someone looking for a way to help their fellow human out?..I work hard too and I don’t begrudge anyone for havin an easier go at it in anything..and hate over the equivalent of something as bumming a ride because one doesn’t own a car or something..smh..I hope she has fun. I guess JEALOUSY is the art of counting someone else’s blessings..and last I checked this is America..and people have the right to spend their money on whatever it is they are feelin..And everyone was wondering when you are gonna start selling the Drunkmau5 shirts? :)..

Everybody who rants or talks down about the situation does no good for it either, I donated my money and frankly I think it was a good idea I also donate money to a (JRA) Juevinile Rheumatoid Arthritis fund because my mother has this! So for everybody to say hey donate here or there why don’t you take your own advices and STOP and actually donate to “a real charity” as your saying if not and you don’t think “you” should have to. Just shut up.. Honestly half the people who post negative comments on here are either jealous, mad or something in between. Truly everybody is blowing this out of proportion it was to help bring OUR friend to a festival, so carry and by the way I can’t wait to see Drunkmau5 & Bad Kids there! I love you guys✌

Woah woah dude above me, you seriously just posted a link to an article that talks about ingrained racism in the US and adopting foreign kids and dare us to compare that issue to a girl who loves music and hasn’t been to a festival? Do you see the lapse of judgement there or is it just me?

Now I get it, people are saying “donate to whatever you feel like” but this honestly feels like a situation where it’s just Internet friends trying to take advantage of Internet “fame” they have amassed and use it to their advantage. A real charitable effort would be taking someone who is an edm lover, like drunkmau5, who is ill with a disease or had some significant hardship in their life and it totally inhibits them from ever going to a festival.

So are you saying if Drunkmau5 lived in NYC or near a major city she wouldn’t have already gone to a festival? Give me a break. You are all showing zero appreciation for hard work and hard earned money. Anyone who has ever had to save up money for something knows the reward of finally being able to buy what you want. And, anyone that’s ever had to work hard for their money would never give it away to some shit “charity” idea. This is like a case where Bad Kids are saying “hey followers, you know where your parents wallets are. Donate money for Internet hugs!”

But I get it, a bunch of friends want to help their other friend get to a festival for the first time because she lives somewhere that blows. That’s fine, just don’t make it public and promote it as a “charity.” Next time, take a kid who has lost all his money because of cancer treatment, or his family is poor and he already works two jobs to just stay afloat, or something like that and give him/her the time of their life, not some chick who sits behind a fucking computer at home

DAMN HATERS. People can donate to what ever the f they feel like. If you really have an issue go donate to what you perfer. Who demanded your support for raising this money? BK GREAT IDEA! If a friend of mine had never gone to something I’d be more then happy to be a great friend and support them. Festivals are about having great times with great people, no reason these douches need to spoil it.

Obviously it’s been said over and over on here again already but seriously.. Volunteer, get a job and save up, sacrifice not going to other events and pool money for a festival.. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. This isn’t people being jealous that some poor girl got picked for this, this is a “twitter celeb” who happened to get in with a “clever” handle before the EDM boom and has tons of little rave-n00b followers bowing down to her. It’s pathetic. Not to mention did anyone notice her promoter ticket link in her twitter bio? Why can’t she use the money she makes off that to go? I know exactly how promoting works and if that’s her idea of a job so she can sit behind her computer and anon twitter all day at least use that fucking money to go to EDC if it means so much. But you know what, this is all whatever. One more n00b at the festival who will be planted over at the shitty main stage, and one more person sporting shitty apparel with MOLLY and RAGE stamped on it for me to avoid and laugh at. Keep polluting the scene you morons, you’re only embarrassing yourselves.

I don’t understand why Drunkmau5 getting to go to a festival has an effect on any of your lives who are hating on her for going. Stop calling her mean names and calling her lazy. You obviously don’t know her and are jealous about the fact that people got enjoyment out of helping her.
BadKidsClothing did not threaten you in any way to donate. They didn’t tell you that they were going to break your arms if you didn’t donate. Donations are voluntary. If you don’t like the cause fine, then don’t donate.
If you are hating on people because they helped out a fellow raver and did it out of the kindness of their heart then I’m pretty sure you don’t know what PLUR means either.
Peace. Love. Unity. Respect.- that means not hating on people not judging and welcoming people no matter what their story is.

Dear Friends,

Hope you are doing well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts / feelings re: the PLUR Project as it is always good to hear other perspectives around initiatives we are doing. Also, anyones opinions and thoughts are theirs to share as free speech is something we take pride in over at Bad Kids – you know, being true to oneself of course is in our DNA!

The PLUR Project was kicked off last night using Drunkmau5 as a starting point to show that one act of kindness can start something so much bigger. A movement if you will – that shows when spreading the four anchors of PLUR – life just becomes more enjoyable. As we have seen in recent acts of hate with bombings and shootings, life is simply too short, and we want to help people remember that being positive and kind is simply a beautiful way of getting through life. One person to the next to the next. A small act, a big act, what have you.

Lisa is an example, in our opinion, of someone who continuously tries to help others, those she doesn’t even know, just out of the goodness in her heart… just because she feels its the right thing to do. So we thought it would be very nice to leverage all the people that love her, including our network, and give back. This one act was just the kicking off point for where we are going with our project. One way of showing that we are in the spirit of making someones dreams come true through a very simple act of kindness.

Now, moving forward, since the program has been launched, the PLUR Project is turning into a much bigger initiative.

For example, kids in schools who are being bullied for being fat, ugly, stupid or whatever mean names are thrown around these days – PLUR Project acts as an outlet for support – kind of like a network of people you can trust and tell your personal stories to. A motivational group that helps you through the hard times and reminds you there is light at the end of the tunnel. We will be activating at major festivals, through our own events, etc in order to help the greater community feel confident in who they are and their differences. We are so excited to share the full cause marketing effort with our community tonight and hope that you will take some time to read where we are going.

Again, we are not here to argue or fight you on your opinions. By all means, we embrace your confidence in sharing with your community – as we do the same! Just know that we are a support system here to help others and that is our overall mission. Hope that we can meet one day, as we certainly have a common bond in our love of EDM

All the best,
-Andi Cross

Words can’t even describe what happened last night! An incredible video that was so effective that the goal was reached within hours. Having met the Bad Kids Clothing Team and having followed @drunkmau5 forever on twitter, this is genuinely nice kind loving people. To say this is about money or about partying is foolish. This is about love, helping each other, being there for one another which there isn’t enough of in society! Nothing but love for the PLUR Project, we fully support and will be doing all that we can to make it bigger and better! Keep it up! Much Love! Your friends at Eye Love Shadez!

I know Drunkmau5 and Bad Kids from online and would like to say that THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED! How dare you ask people to donate online so someone can party? I used to go to Tulsa with my mom and it ain’t so bad. How about donating to a worthy cause such as starving african children or AIDS/Cancer research??? Ravers are some of the poorest people I know so deal with it or stop complaining!

Geez where do i start. lets start at PLUR dates to the 1990s rave scene in the UK which stemmed from House music that originated Chicago in the 80’s. The earliest use of the term was by DJ Frankie Bones in June of 1993. In response to a fight that broke out at one of his seminal Storm Raves in New York City, Bones got on the microphone and yelled “If you don’t start showing some peace, love, and unity, I’ll break your faces.. it doesnt state where the term was used to pay for somone to go to a festival. Im sorry that you live in the middle of nowhere but its not fair that people just like you who live in other countries or in many other states that want to experience festivals also. What makes you so special. why cause you have a twitter with over 18k followers. I can make a twitter and get more like then you in a weeks time its not hard there are ways to get followers but thats not the point im trying to make here. The point im trying to make here is if you wanted to experience a festival do it yourself dont ask for handouts. I went to my first festival a couple of years ago and know how i did it? its called getting a job saving up money and buying a damn ticket. Even somone i know working at a diner in the middle of Wisconsin getting paid 2 bucks a hour and not even making enough on tips to live is going to be coming to EDC in VEGAS this year. Want to know why? because of self determination, Not a handout.

I bought a item for from Bad kids Clothing last year and after i seen all the illicit drug slang on the tshirts i immediately burned my shirt i bought from you. i love how you try and promote PLUR through your website and marketing schemes but lets be honest here you did this for social media recognition, and attention. its funny you also talk about PLUR when you were the ones who were SELLING KANDI a while back… if you ask me thats a little low. yea we get you had a rough childhood and you were not the popular kids in school we get that but how many other people are just like you in the same situation. it doesnt make you special it doesnt make you any different from anyone else.

Point of the matter is that Preaching and Doing are 2 different things.

Yes, her story sucks, but others shouldn’t have to pay for it. No one paid for me to go to Cream’sfield, no one paid for me to go to EDC every year since 2009, or every Nocturnal, and Beyond, Coachella, Tomorrowland and so on. I worked my ASS OFF, got a corporate job I hate that pays well and I pay for myself to go. You obviously live at home, you have no responsibilities like mortgage, car payment, insurance, health, dental, utilities and so forth even worse you live in Oklahoma where living is dirt cheap. That’s why you have the time to blog, how about you blog a little less, get a job, pay to go to an event and actually learn about what you’re blogging by experiencing it. It means more if you work for it, but no, we’re ask for a handout. Handouts are easy, if you REALLY wanted this, you’d paid for it by now.

I love bad kids clothing , but I will no longer buy from them because of their support of this lazy chick. Ur not hungry, u don’t need clothing or shelter, ur not sick. So many other people deserve this money over you…like everyone, so stop making this out to be charity, it’s laziness. Ur helping to ruin PLUR because PLUR isn’t a tag u can throw on something because u don’t wanna work to get stuff you want. To everyone who donated, her name is Drunkmau5, think about that.

It is cool that people can donate but how about you donate to a worthy cause. If you simply don’t have the money for a festival GET A JOB.This has to be the largest SCAM i have ever seen.Just because you have tons of followers on twitter doesn’t make you the “EDM QUEEN”.I love how people are so naive donating. Guess what your a “regular” person just like anybody else looking to get to EDC just because you have never been to a festival doesn’t make you special in anyway nor better then anybody else wanting to attend.

I completely agree with Yosef, this should be donated to a legitimate cause. I don’t see a trip to NYC to attend a festival as a cause per say. I’ve never attended EDCLV but I’ve worked my butt off mind you to pay for my trip. This just doesn’t seem right.

Love how people use PLUR to manipulate others better yet I would go as far as scamming others by “donating” to a cause… HA how about donating to a worthy cause eh maybe !?! PLUR is a way of treating others not paying for people who can’t afford festivals (: maybe a job eh… ever heard of that !?! and get to a festival the way we all do. or volunteer at one and get to go for free. this is total disgrace and goes to show ya sadly which direction EDM is headed.
